32 Sweetest Cars Owned by Footballers

Footballers are not known for their subtlety when it comes to style choices and if they could drive around on a pair of trainers on wheels I am sure they would be as happy as a pig in shi-t.

As evidence I would present the example of the Gold-Plated Cadillac Escolade of El Hadji Diouf, the hideous Bentley convertible belonging to Stephen Ireland and the all chrome Aston Martin of Jermaine Pennant but perhaps they are best left for another article.

What we are looking at today are cars that are clearly not low-key but the owners have at least left matters of style and taste to designers rather than footballers.

When you're paid millions of dollars every week to kick a ball around, there's bound to be some incredible purchases scattered throughout your bank balance.

For footballers, one of the biggest and greatest purchases they make is their cars, splashing out ridiculous amounts of money for some very sweet-looking rides.

And we're talking very sweet-looking cars here.

Cars that most likely ate my 2003 Toyota Camry for breakfast.

Here's the top 32 cars owned by footballers at the moment.

32.  Obafemi Martins – Lamborghini N50M (£250.000)

Former Inter Milan and Newcastle striker, is one of the richest Nigerian footballers. He bought a very nice Lamborghini N50M value £ 250,000.

31.  Jermaine Pennant – Aston Martin DBS Chrome (£ 170,000)

Once upon a time he was named as the new Beckham and that’s not for the his looks. Jermaine Pennant has played for eight different teams throughout his career. his Aston Martin with a value in £ 170,000 is quite unique because of the color, which is chrome.

30.  Arda Turan – Mercedes-Benz SLS (£145.000)

Arda Turan is a Turkish footballer who plays for  Atletico Madrid as a left winger. In the garage he has a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG worth 145,000 which is enough to be part of this list.

29.  Luis Nani – Lamborghini Gallardo (£137 .000)

Portuguese star who plays with Manchester United is going through a difficult moment of his career. he keeps in his garage a Gallardo LP 550-2 Lamburghini which cost £137,000.

28.  Lionel Messi – Maserati Gran Turismo MC Stradale

Lionel Messi owns one of these limited production super sports cars that are based around the standard 2007 launched coupe but with some rather immense numbers added. Improved aerodynamics, less weight and more power make this machine very fast with a top speed listed as 188mph which for a sporty coupe is quite impressive. This is however at heart a coupe that pretends to be a proper sports car and as such is a comfortable drive first and a super sports car second.

You can pick up an MC Stradale for as little as £109,995.

27.  Neymar – Porsche Panamera Turbo S

The Porsche Panamera is a practical four-door sedan luxury car with a large engine added and its name is derived like the Carrera line from the Carrera Panamericana race. In the case of the Turbo S the large engine is a 4.8-litre V8 twin turbo which is something of an improvement to the lesser 3.6 litre V6 of the standard models.

The 550 bhp of Neymar’s model has a listed max speed of 190mph and 3.8 sec 0-62mph, the top speed is rather academic unless you take the car on a Track Day. The Porsche Panamera Turbo S is a two-seater so loses the practicality and stretched appearance of the standard four-door. The Turbo S is the most powerful mass production Porsche on sale.

A Porsche Panamera Turbo S will set you back a trifling £122,623.

26.  Cristiano Ronaldo – Lamborghini Aventador

A Lamborghini Aventador is a classic and glorious mid-engined supercar with killer styling and stats to match. The car is one of the last V12 supercars in production and the roadster and coupe versions deliver an eye-watering 690bhp and 217mph with a 2.9s 0-60mph.The Aventador looks like it could belong to a superhero with its theatrical and aggressive geometry, perhaps it could also transform into a killer robot at the touch of a button. Having those dreams or nightmares is going to set you back a fair bit I’m afraid…

The base price for the Aventador Roadster is in the region of £300,000.

25.  Wayne Rooney – Range Rover Overfinch

Nothing wrong with a Range Rover, it’s no supercar of course in the sense of having scintillating acceleration or an outrageous top speed but then Rooney is of course a class-apart in the upper echelons of football aristocracy…Yes that’s a big load of tosh and the Range Rover has become an annoying and unwelcome fat tank that spreads itself unflatteringly over Britain’s streets, school-runs and car parks these days. There is no need for it except on farms pulling trailers full of pig swill. The Overfinch brand means you have paid £60k extra for nice cushions, a gun cabinet with matching tumblers and because you obviously wouldn’t be seen dead in the same Range Rover as seemingly half the population at the moment.

Expect to use your chrome-plated fork and dig out £145,000 for one.

24.  Gareth Bale & Stephen Ireland – Audi R8

The Audi R8 is another popular sports car as it marries the performance and handling of a supercar with the refined comforts and instruments of a saloon car and is considered comparable to a Porsche 911. The car went into production in 2007 and is available like most cars of this level as a coupe and roadster.

The three R8 versions range in price from around £90,000 to £130,000.

23.  Alvaro Arbeloa - Morgan 3 Wheeler

The cheapest, most eccentric and arguably most madly-fun car on our list was driven into training at Real Madrid by Arbeloa. The Morgan, is English through-and-through and let’s face it no other country would consider developing and producing such a car which resembles a WW1 fighter cockpit on wheels. The fun contraption and looks like it belongs in the past and is powered by a 2.0Litre S&S two cylinder motorbike engine which is exposed on the front of the car with chrome exhausts running each side of the vehicle. The high-revving engine delivers just 80hp and claims a top speed of 115mph although by all accounts you would be mad to attempt it. The car is hugely impractical, a charming toy designed more than anything to make you and everyone around you smile and long may it continue.

A Morgan 3 Wheeler will set you back about £30,000.

22.  Frank Lampard – Aston Martin DB9

The Aston Martin DB9 has been around since 2004 and is the successor of the DB7 and carries under its bonnet a 6.0L V12 Ford Duratec power plant. The Aston Martin is widely considered one of the most beautiful cars ever produced which goes some way to explain the cars longevity. Despite being a gand tourer the DB9 is no slouch and that V12 generates some 476 bhp and can deliver a 0-60 in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 183 mph.

The car is one of the cheaper luxury cars to own and could be yours for a paltry £132,000.

Frank Lampard – Ferrari 612 Scaglietti ( £200.000)

Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard is one of the richest footballers in the Premier League. He ranks 5 on the list with a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti which costs £ 200,000.

21.  Di Maria - Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

The Corvette Stingray is a car with a lot of history, glitz and glamour being one of America’s most endearing sports cars with many generations from initial production in 1953. The Sting Ray model coupe didn’t arrive until 1963 and its recognisable shape has evolved into the car now owned by Manchester United new signing Angel Di Maria. The C7 has a 6.2 L V8 which generates 460 bhp a 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds and a listed top speed of 195mph.

The Stingray is one of the cheapest sports cars available at a barely noticeable £33,500, another good move for Di Maria.

20. Djibril Cisse: Plymouth Prowler

Kicking off our list is a car owned by Queens Park Rangers player Djibril Cisse—the Plymouth Prowler.

Personally, I'm not much of a fan of the mustache-front design of the Prowler, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a nice ride or that someone out there doesn't like it.

After all, Cisse did choose to buy this car.

Price: £30,000 (estimate)

19. Thierry Henry: Lincoln Navigator

Arsenal legend and MLS star Thierry Henry certainly makes a statement with the Lincoln Navigator.

It might not be the speed or sleekness that exists in some of the other supercars on this list, but there is sheer power from Henry's vehicle, and it looks pretty nice as well.

At the end of the day, his car could crush basically anything on this list, all without sacrificing style or class in its design. A very nice, smart car.

Price: £50,000 (estimate)

18. Jermain Defoe: BMW X5

Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe stands at just 5'5", thus making the seven-seater BMW X5 a strange purchase for the England international.

Having said that, the X5 is still one of the better large cars on the market at the moment (luxury wise) and still looks very nice in full flight, as seen above.

Even if Defoe needs to sit on a pillow to drive it.

Price: £70,000 (estimate)

17. Steven Gerrard: Jaguar XKR Convertible

Liverpool and England legend Steven Gerrard recently sold his £120,000 Range Rover (per The Sun), meaning that we must then look to his Jaguar XKR convertible as his next best car.

Not that the Jag here is a bad alternative, being able to reach 62 mph in under five seconds, and it looks pretty darn stylish in the meantime.

Price: £90,000 (estimate)

16. Michael Owen: Aston Martin DB7 Vantage

Nothing says class quite like an Aston Martin.

However, nothing says bench quite like Michael Owen.

It's like a match made in heaven.

Price: £100,000 (estimate)

15. Theo Walcott: Audi R8

Theo Walcott is looking for a new contract at Arsenal this January transfer window.

What he isn't looking for at the moment, however, is a brand new car, with his black Audi R8 cutting a mean and slick figure every time it hits the road.

Touted as Audi's potential answer to the Porsche 911, there's little doubting just how nice this car is.

Price: £120,000 (estimate)

14. Carlos Tevez: Porsche Panamera

We know Carlos Tevez has a Porsche Panamera because we saw it being towed away (via The Sun). Now we know that Tevez is facing a ban from driving his beloved Porsche.

Putting it out there, if he needs anyone to take it out for a spin and check that everything's OK in the next few months, I'm happy to put up my hand and selflessly volunteer myself for this incredibly difficult and time-consuming job.

Selfless, I know.

Price: £125,000 (estimate)

13. John Terry: Ferrari F430 Spider

We had to get a Ferrari in on this list, and John Terry obliges with his F430 Spider.

You might be wondering why we don't see the Chelsea defender driving it much; it's most likely because he's also driving his Range Rover Sport, BMW X5, Porsche 911 Turbo or Bentley Continental around.

It's a tough life sometimes.

Price: £130,000 (estimate)

12. Ashley Cole: Mercedes-Benz SL63

The SL63 is a very classy machine, and one owned by Chelsea defender Ashley Cole.

Whether he stays in London or leaves to France at some point in the future doesn't matter—this car will certainly make a statement no matter where Cole is.

Price: £150,000 (estimate)

11. Rio Ferdinand: Bentley Arnage

Some people might not like the Bentley Arnage—saying that it's old and isn't really a "modern" car at all. Some people might love it, saying that is resonates class and beauty, power and pose all at the same time.

That's all probably fair enough, because Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has an Arnage, and those opinions are exactly what people think of him as well.

Price: £160,000 (estimate)

10. Mario Balotelli: Bentley Continental GT & Ferrari 458

Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli has a Bentley Contentintal GT.

If you're wondering why that picture doesn't look like one, that's because Super Mario decided to completely camouflage it earlier in the year so that it would look like that.

Why you would do that to a car that looks like this is beyond me.

But hey, that's Mario.

Price: £160,000 (estimate)

Mario Balotelli loves his cars and has recently taken ownership of a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta to add to his fleet of supercars. The Ferrari 458 is another Ferrari in his collection and is a popular addition to the driveways of the mega-rich footballer and Balotelli shares his passion with Mesut Ozil among others. The 458 was unveiled to the world at the Frankfurt Motor Show and was the replacement to the F430. The 458 was designed by the Pininfarina car design and coach company who have had a partnership with Ferrari since the 1950’s. The 458 can be ordered as a 2-seat Berlinetta or Spider and the rear mid-engined V8 can develop a top speed of 202mph which is dead handy on most European roads. The 458 was named “Car of the Year 2009 and “Supercar of the Year”. Top Gear named the 458 Speciale Supercar of the Year 2013.

A Ferrari 458 will set you back between £180,000 to £210,000.

9. Jermaine Pennant: Aston Martin DBS

That there is Jermaine Pennant's Aston Martin DBS.

The Stoke City player fitted out the sleek-looking car with a chrome finish—giving it a very stylish and noticeable look that simply mirrors everything it ever sees.

If only Pennant was at the standard that his car is.

Price: £180,000 (estimate)

8. Claude Makalele: Ferrari 360

Technically not a player, Claude Makalele still makes this list as a footballer because the former Chelsea player is now the assistant coach to Carlos Ancelotti at Paris St. Germain.

Oh, and because he drives a Ferrari, which few can dispute as being a sweet-looking car.

Price: £190,000 (estimate)

7. Wayne Rooney: Lamborghini Gallardo

England international, Manchester United legend, well on his way to winning another Premier League title—life isn't all bad at the moment for Wayne Rooney.

Especially when he has this sweet Lamborghini sitting amongst his collection, albeit not in bright yellow.

Price: £260,000 (estimate)

Aston Martin Vanquish (£ 150,000)

Highest Paid Wayne Rooney is highest aid  Manchester United player. With a salary of 300,000 a week, it is normal to be in this list. This was probably no money for it.

6. David Beckham: Bentley Continental Supersports

David Beckham has a huge array of wonderful cars at his disposal, but the one that sticks out the most is the Bentley Continental Supersports.

Just think, all he had to do to get there was become one of the greatest players in the modern game—a Manchester United and Real Madrid legend who completely revolutionized football in the United States.

Well played, sir. Well played.

Price: £260,000 (estimate)

David Beckham – Rolls Royce Phantom (£350,000)

Manchester United star and fashion icon in England, David Beckham sold his Rolls Royce Phantom for £250,000 in 2013, an amazing car which he bought brand new at £350,000. For Becks is said that his wealth was greater than that of the Queen of England.

5. Nani: Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2

Manchester United midfielder Nani has a car very similar to that of his United teammate, Wayne Rooney, only that Nani's is the LP 550-2 version, of which only 250 were ever made.

That makes Nani just a little bit special—as does the fact it does 0-60 in under four seconds. Now if only the winger himself were that quick...

Price: £300,000 (estimate)

4. Didier Drogba: Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster

Former Chelsea player and current Shanghai Shenhua striker Didier Drogba will no doubt go down as one of the legends of the game when he eventually retires. He's a true statesman for world football who modeled the game beautifully and achieved so much within it.

It is no surprise, therefore, that Drogba has himself a classy Mercedes SL65—a true statesman car if ever there was one.

This 25-unit limited edition car went into production a year after the SLR itself was discontinued in 2010 and is a grand tourer class sports car developed jointly by Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey. The Roadster features a supercharged V8 AMG power plant that generates 617 bhp and enables a top speed of 208 mph and 0-100 acceleration in 3.1 seconds.

The standard Roadster version of the SLR is no longer available but would have cost £350,000 but Drogba’s limited edition car would be significantly more.

Price: £330,000 (estimate)

3. El Hadji Diouf – Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren (£420,000)

El Hadj Djouf is currently playing for Leeds United in the Championship after stints at Sunderland, Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers and Liverpool throughout his career.

But with a car like the Mercedes McLaren SLR, does it really matter where he's playing?

Former Liverpool player and Leeds United player, has been on the list of “the most ugliest cars of footballers”, but this does not prevent him to ranked second on the list. He holds a very expensive car (McLaren SLR) with a stratospheric value of £ 420,000 .

Price: £420,000 (estimate)

2. Samuel Eto'o: Maybach Cruisero Coupe

Known for their spaciousness and class, the Mayback Cruisero Coupe is one seriously nice-looking car, and one is owned by former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o.

Few of the models were ever made before the company went broke, with the Anzhi Makhachkala striker one of the fortunate few who got their hands on one.

The 5.7-meter car can do 0-60 in five seconds and has a top speed of 170 mph—all incredible numbers for a car so large and dominant.

Price: £600,000 (estimate)

1. Cristiano Ronaldo: Bugatti Veyron

It seems only fitting that we end this list with one of the greatest footballers in the world as well as one of the greatest cars in the world—Cristiano Ronaldo and a Bugatti Veyron.

The fastest car in the world meets with one of the greatest dribblers of our time.

Class, poise, elegance, power and brilliance—all of which can be said about both the car and player in question here.

The world just works sometimes.

Price: £1,100,000 (estimate)

Cristiano Ronaldo – Ferrari 2014 Model (£2million)

2 times Ballon D’or, one of the best football players in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo is a car collector. He keeps in his garage more expensive cars, but La Ferrari so far is the most expensive car ever bought by a football player who cost £ 2million.

Any sweet-looking footballers cars that missed the list?
